Frequently Asked Questions
How can I tell the difference between one full composite caravan and another? What should I be looking for?
It pays to do your homework – not all composite caravans are created equal. There are real differences in material quality and how they’re put together. Here’s what to ask:
Where's the composite material made?
Some overseas composite materials just don’t cut it. Our EcoLite composite is Australian-made using premium components – it’s one of the highest quality composite products available today. The result is an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio that’s perfect for caravan building. Similar materials are used in aircraft cabins and floor panels, so you know it’s built to perform.
What's inside the composite panels?
We use only the highest quality XPS foam – that’s 400 kPa structural XPS closed-cell foam that provides real strength and won’t soak up water like some open-cell foams can. XPS also has superior thermal properties, making it a much better insulator. It’s the smart choice for Australian conditions.
How much experience does the manufacturer have with composite?
While some manufacturers are just starting to experiment with composite, the team behind Dreamhaven has been perfecting composite techniques for years. We’ve worked closely with material suppliers to fine-tune our methods and get the strongest possible results. Our engineers use three different composite panels throughout each caravan – each engineered for its specific job:
- Thicker floors for better insulation and a super-rigid base
- Stronger front wall and roof panels to handle the forces of braking and acceleration
- Side walls engineered to support the roof and maintain structural integrity
Is it 100% composite or just partial?
Some manufacturers mix composite panels with other materials. The best builds use 100% composite panels – two outer fibreglass layers with an XPS core – for all walls, floor and roof, with no timber frame. That’s what you get with every Dreamhaven.
How is the furniture secured inside a Dreamhaven?
All our furniture is built from quality plywood and firmly attached to the floor before the walls and roof go on. This makes the cabinetry free-standing and self-supporting. We then use high-strength polymer adhesive to attach furniture to the walls – the same type used for bus frames, vehicle windshields and train body structures.
The furniture is designed with interlocking panels and screwed together, so it stays solid even on rough corrugated roads. This precise method creates strong assembly that optimises structural integrity and weight distribution, while firmly anchoring everything to the caravan’s core. The result is a caravan built to handle whatever the road throws at it.
Does a full composite caravan need a frame inside the walls?
A well-built composite caravan doesn’t need internal framing. Quality composite material like our EcoLite is strong enough to fully support the caravan on its own. No frame means the caravan is as light as possible – easier and more economical to tow. And with no timber frame, there’s no risk of rot from water getting in where it shouldn’t.
